The Johnson Baby Birds

This spring we were excited to find three sets of birds building nests in our front yard. Two nests were in hanging plants and one nest in the bushes. A total of 10 eggs were layed and nine of the 10 hatched! It was a neat lesson for the kids about nature. Konnor even watched one of the eggs hatch (one second the egg was intact... the next second the bird was coming out). The cool picture of that is below (talk about good timing)! It was something that the kids could have read about in a book... but seeing it happen was 10x better! It's been fun watching the birds go from being just a little egg ...to a brand new bird ...to a bird who is ready to fly away! Below are pictures as well as a video of Konnor explaining in his own words about the baby birdies...

Brand new baby bird! This is one of the "triplets!"

Feed me!

Waiting for the "quintuplets" to hatch!

There is one!

A second later... WAIT! ... now there are two!

Trying to break free from the egg!

Three of the "quintuplets" wanting to eat!

Kaylee and Konnor checking out the birds!

The "quintuplets" are growing up!

One of the "triplets" shortly before it flew away!

I can't believe you guys had access to those birds' nests. That is amazing!! Definitely the best way to learn about birds!
